The Common European Framework for Reference of Languages (CEFR) is a scale for categorising language ability which is recognized worldwide.
There are 6 levels on the scale: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1and C2. A1 is classed as the beginners level whereas C2 is for a person with a high level of proficiency in English and is fluent in the language.

There are some things that you need to consider when referring to your level of English. It’s important to remember that every language has different aspects. Basic language aspects include reading, listening, writing and speaking, while more advanced language aspects are grammar, vocabulary, idioms, colloquial speech and expressions.
It is possible to be very good at certain aspects while finding others more challenging. It’s common for learners to have a solid understanding of grammar yet find it difficult to speak.
